Naval tragedy in New York exposes the deadly cost of the 4T's austerity

The false austerity of the ruling party claimed more mortal victims. On May 17, two Navy cadets lost their lives during a naval ceremony in the United States.

The training ship Cuauhtémoc was participating in the traditional ceremony "manning the yards". According to initial reports, a motor failure caused the vessel to lose its course and crash into the dock structure.

The victims were América Yamilet Sánchez, 20 years old and originally from Veracruz, and Adal Jair Maldonado Marcos, 23 years old, from Oaxaca. The Secretary of the Navy also reported 22 injured, of which three are in serious condition.

A cut without a compass

As a result of the so-called "republican austerity" promoted by Morena, in 2025 the budget of the Secretary of the Navy was reduced by more than 6,000 million pesos.

This reduction directly affected key areas such as the acquisition, maintenance, and repair of naval units, which suffered a 14.64% drop in funding.

Among the canceled projects are the construction of a logistics ship and the purchase of ocean patrols. The maintenance of existing vessels was also compromised, as evidenced by the recent international incident.

International embarrassment

The impact of the Training Ship Cuauhtémoc in New York waters exposed maintenance failures and poor logistical planning. This tragedy adds to a chain of errors resulting from the current government's budgetary decisions.

Reducing resources to the Navy not only puts national sovereignty at risk but also severely affects Mexico's international image. The poorly applied "austerity" is sinking the operational capabilities of the country's institutions.
