Cháirez attacked Catholicism again: returns with The Second Coming of the Lord

Despite the community's rejection, Cháirez once again presents works that denigrate the Christian faith at the CDMX Museum

Fabián Cháirez is known for constantly attacking religious and traditional values. On April 2, he inaugurated his controversial exhibition "The Second Coming of the Lord" at the Museum of Mexico City.

This exhibition was previously removed from the Academy of San Carlos at UNAM due to its offensive content. It is now being displayed again, openly challenging the beliefs of the country's Catholic majority.

A repeated provocation toward the Catholic community

The exhibition consists of nine oil paintings, featuring religious figures such as nuns and priests in scenes of erotic and homoerotic nature.

These representations have been described by various sectors as disrespectful and an unnecessary provocation toward the Catholic faith.

It is worth remembering that the original exhibition of "The Coming of the Lord" was the subject of protests by citizens concerned about the growing disrespect toward sacred symbols.

Complaints were even filed with the National Council to Prevent Discrimination (CONAPRED), considering that the work promoted discrimination against believers.

Official support for an offensive exhibition

Despite the rejection from a significant part of society, the cultural authorities of Mexico City gave their endorsement.

The officials responsible for the official support are the Secretary of Culture, Ana Francis López Bayghen, and the Director of the Museum Network, Julia Cabrera.

Both decided to support the relaunch of Cháirez's work, even though it goes against the values of millions of Mexicans.

Fabián Cháirez defends himself

In an unconvincing attempt at defense, the controversial artist from Chiapas defended his exhibition, arguing that he was exercising his freedom of expression.

He also labeled the groups rejecting his work as intolerant and as sympathizers of the right-wing leader, Eduardo Verástegui.

It is expected that in the coming days citizen and religious groups will again denounce this immoral and blasphemous exhibition.
