Judge who favored Esquivel's advisor also allegedly plagiarized her thesis
The judge who ruled a multimillion-dollar compensation in favor of Yasmín Esquivel's advisor is also accused of alleged plagiarism
New scandal in the judicial field shakes the country and the integrity of its members, this time it involves Judge Flor Hernández Mijangos.
She is responsible for ordering a compensation of 15 million pesos in favor of Martha Rodríguez Ortiz, advisor of the plagiarized thesis of Minister Yasmín Esquivel.
However, it was recently discovered that she also allegedly committed plagiarism in her own undergraduate thesis.

A controversial judicial ruling
On February 26, 2025, Hernández Mijangos sentenced the former rector of UNAM, Enrique Graue, and the former director of FES Aragón, Fernando Macedo. This, to pay a millionaire compensation to Rodríguez Ortiz for moral damage, after the accusations of plagiarism in Esquivel's thesis.
However, the academic Guillermo Sheridan revealed that Hernández Mijangos herself allegedly plagiarized extensive fragments of her undergraduate thesis.
Hernández, who presented her thesis in 1991, allegedly took almost verbatim paragraphs from the renowned jurist Ignacio Burgoa without proper attribution.

Reactions from the academic community
The university community has expressed its outrage at these revelations. They consider that Hernández Mijangos's ruling "rewards the advisor of the ostensibly plagiarized thesis and punishes the UNAM officials who had to deal with that matter."
This new scandal highlights the corruption and irregularity surrounding the ministers allied with the Morena government, such as Esquivel, Lenia Batres and Loretta Ortiz.

Despite the overwhelming evidence of the plagiarism committed by Minister Yasmín Esquivel, those who are charged are ironically the ones who exposed this.
