IMSS delegate arrested with 3 million pesos and a weapon... and released without charges
José Luis Aranza Aguilar was released hours later; authorities don't explain his release
The delegate of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in Tamaulipas, José Luis Aranza Aguilar, was arrested this Tuesday by State Guard officers in downtown Ciudad Victoria. During the inspection, a firearm was found without a permit. Additionally, he was carrying 3 million pesos in cash, whose origin he could not justify.
Despite the seriousness of the case, the official was released a few hours later. The authorities did not offer a clear explanation for his release.

Violent reaction and unexplained release
Witnesses claim that the delegate adopted a violent attitude toward the State Guard officers. He refused to allow them to search his vehicle and threatened to use his influence to have them dismissed.
After his arrest, Aranza Aguilar was taken to the headquarters of the Attorney General's Office. There he would face charges for carrying an illegal weapon and for the money he could not justify.
He was released only two hours later, supposedly by decision of the federal prosecutor. The usual procedure was not followed, and there was no public explanation.
Official contradictions and lack of transparency
The Tamaulipas Security Spokesperson reported that no evidence of a crime was found after searching the vehicle. They stated that both the driver and the passenger were released without incident.
The IMSS also issued an information card and supported the official version. It stated that the official was released because the state government did not confirm the existence of weapons or money.
These contradictions have caused strong criticism. Various sectors demand a transparent investigation and sanctions if a cover-up is confirmed.
Background of irregularities in IMSS Tamaulipas
In recent months, multiple cases of shortages of oncology medications have been reported. There have also been reports of their alleged sale with the support of union authorities.
Aranza Aguilar himself acknowledged that there is a shortage in the IMSS pharmacies. He stated that the medications are not available because the laboratories are not manufacturing them.
The express release of the IMSS delegate, despite the evidence against him, raises doubts about the real fight against corruption. It also questions the transparency in the use of public resources.
