DR Sheinbaum reopened Line 12 knowing it could collapse again
Leaked recordings confirm that the then head of Government ignored technical warnings to accelerate her political agenda
Claudia Sheinbaum reopened the Line 12 of the Metro in Mexico City without replacing trains or completing a structural repair, despite multiple warnings from her own technical team. Recordings obtained by Latinus reveal at least thirteen meetings of specialists who warned about the risks of reopening the line without essential changes.
Sheinbaum's priority was not the safety of the users, but to reopen before the end of her term and boast the project as a "government achievement."
"What keeps me up at night is that I have three years left in government... I have to leave a line operating." Her words reveal a political, not technical, approach to a tragedy that left 26 dead and dozens injured. Even with recommendations to change the trains, reinforce structures, and adjust the design, a superficial repair was chosen.
The disaster didn't stop her ambition
Line 12 was poorly designed: it was built for rubber tires, but they used metal wheels. The error caused accelerated wear that led to the 2021 collapse. Sheinbaum didn't correct it.
The underground section reopened in January 2023; the elevated section, in July; and the rest, in January 2024. All against the clock, regardless of the same administration's technicians warning of new structural risks. A simulation disguised as public management.
Collapsed metro, shielded government
While the capital's residents traveled on deformed rails and patched structures, Sheinbaum was already preparing her leap to the presidency. The safety of millions of people was subordinated to propaganda and the need to clean her image after the tragedy. Today, the recordings reveal that it was never about protecting the citizens.
It was a failed government that preferred to sweep evidence of its negligence under the rug. And so, with a patched line and no justice for the victims, Claudia Sheinbaum reached the presidential seat.
She imitated her mentor, the mythomaniac López Obrador. Political decision, broken line, country that forgets.
The pain of the victims was left behind. The propaganda advanced unchecked. History absolved no one. It only covered the rubble with paint.
