Ceremony Festival: tragedy and silence after the death of two photographers in CDMX

Two photographers died at the AXE 2025 Ceremony after a structure collapse; the event continued without providing explanations

The 2025 edition of the AXE Ceremonia Festival was marked by a tragedy. Two photographersdied on Saturday, April 6, after the collapse of a metal structure at Parque Bicentenario in Mexico City.

The accident occurred around 5:00 PM during the performance of Meme del Real, a member of Café Tacvba. Despite the severity of the incident, the festival did not stop, and the programming continued as if nothing had happened.

Late and brief response from the organizers

More than eight hours passed before the festival organizers issued any kind of official statement. It wasn't until 1:33 AM on Sunday that, through social media, they confirmed the death of the two injured individuals.

The statement did not explain the causes of the collapse, nor why the event was allowed to continue for hours. It also did not mention whether there would be cancellations or changes in Sunday's programming.

Who were the victims?

The victims were unofficially identified as Citlali Berenice Giles Rivera, 28, and Miguel Ángel Rojas, 26. Both were photographers, and at least one of them was a collaborator for the independent outlet Mr. Indie.

Miguel was a graduate of the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences at UNAM and had already documented several editions of Ceremonia. On his Instagram profile, he wrote a phrase that is now circulating widely:

"Today I am everything, tomorrow I no longer exist."

Criticism on social media and institutional silence

The response on social media was immediate. Users harshly criticized Mr. Indie for continuing to publish promotional content about the event without referring to the death of their collaborator.

Meanwhile, the Secretariat of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection attributed the accident to a lack of supervision by the organizers and the Miguel Hidalgo mayor's office. The IMSS reported that both victims died from traumatic brain injury and multiple fractures.

The show went on... despite everything

While forensic personnel worked at the accident site, performances by artists like TXT, Charli XCX, and Natanael Cano continued.

Ceremonia 2025 not only leaves behind deaths: it leaves a question that should trouble the entire music industry and its authorities.
