Women's Time? They barricaded the National Palace with metal fences ahead of March 8th.

Four days before the women's march, CDMX began installing metal fences at historical sites

This morning, Palacio Nacional woke up completely shielded by metal fences nearly three meters (9.8 feet) high. This is to suppress the demonstrations that will arrive at the Zócalo next Saturday, March 8, International Women's Day.

The metal fences extend across the entire front of the historic site. From Moneda Street to Corregidora, located next to the headquarters of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN).

Some points of the fences are reinforced with a blowtorch.

Through social media, users labeled the act as contradictory to the message of "Llegamos todas" issued by President Claudia Sheinbaum.

Since last March 4, the government began installing walls to protect the headquarters of the Federal Executive Power of Mexico. This was prompted by the feminist demonstrations expected on March 8 in the country's capital.

Feminists reject barriers at Palacio Nacional

The Palacio Nacional shielded its facilities in response to the possible damage that the feminist march might cause on "International Women's Day".

The placement of the fences caused speculations against Sheinbaum for her stance on the social movement.

The wall already has some graffiti that demands government strategies to eradicate this type of issues.

Under the message "Claudia no llegamos todas", the groups considered that the act sends an erroneous message to what the president has expressed.

They argue that the barrier would prevent openness to dialogue and stigmatize the merit of the protests, so it was questioned whether it is really "Women's Time".

Sheinbaum justifies the metal walls for 8M

In the conference "La Mañanera del Pueblo", Sheinbaum replied to the dissatisfaction with the placement of the metal fences.

The leader justified that the purpose of the metal wall was exclusively to protect the female police officers. She said that it would even protect the people participating in the march who use dangerous objects.

The head mentioned that it is false that the government protects monuments more than women. She justifies that during her tenure the Constitution has been modified in favor of women, privileging only that sector.
