Retired Colonel Arquímedes Cabrera is a victim of an ideological political persecution by the totalitarian left, mainly from the remnants of the Communist Party and MPP.
Who is Cabrera?
Arquímedes Cabrera joined the Uruguayan Army in 1972 as a second lieutenant and rose to the rank of colonel.
He participated in multiple international peacekeeping missions, including Cambodia, Angola, Kashmir, and the Congo, where he commanded Uruguayan troops.
He was praised for his high level of professionalism in these missions, especially in the Congo, where he led operations in volatile regions such as Bunia and South Kivu.

Within the Army, he is considered an excellent officer: serious, responsible, and highly effective, he enjoys enormous prestige among his fellow soldiers.
Victim of ideological persecution
In 2023, the Human Rights Prosecutor's Office, led by prosecutor Ricardo Perciballe, requested the prosecution of Cabrera for alleged torture and illegal detentions during the civic-military government.
He allegedly acted as an interrogator in Infantry Regiment No. 12 in Rocha, linked to Operation Morgan.
The case, initiated in 2011, led to his detention in 2025 at Domingo Arena prison, along with two other military officers, for alleged crimes including repeated abuse of authority and deprivation of liberty.
