On June 15, 2026, an improvised explosive device was detonated at the facade of the Armed Forces Retirement and Pension Service (commonly known as Caja Militar), in downtown Montevideo.

It was in the early hours of Monday, June 15, around 1:00 a.m., on Avenida Uruguay between Andes and Convención.

No injuries were reported, but minor material damage was reported to a metal curtain and windows of the building.

Security cameras recorded a suspect who arrived on foot, placed the explosive device at the entrance, and left minutes before the detonation.

The police and intelligence identified indications that the individual arrived and left the scene in a taxi accompanied by a woman, prompting an intensified search for those involved.

The authorities ruled out an attempted robbery or theft, and intelligence teams are analyzing possible motives linked to historical and political tensions related to the Armed Forces.

A political attack

As of today, August 24, there are no updates on the matter, and no one has been arrested.

It seems that the line of investigation is not progressing. It gives every indication that this bombing is a direct attack on the Armed Forces and the military family, coming from far-left groups that hate the Armed Forces.

Perhaps from the extra-parliamentary left that does not believe in democracy or freedom, and considers the military one of its main enemies.

It is concerning that more than two months after the attack, no one has been arrested, and that public authorities are not providing explanations.
