This Thursday, April 23, La Libertad Avanza carried out its first citizen intervention of 2026, focusing on the state of the Uruguayan education system. The event took place at 19:00 at the Dante Monument, located on the corner of 18 de Julio and Tristán Narvaja, with an important presence of political leaders from Montevideo
and Canelones.During the activity, representatives of the group presented a critical diagnosis of the public education system, highlighting the high dropout rates that have been the subject of several recent surveys. They also pointed out that almost 60% of the members of the political system that validates the quality of public education choose to send their children to private establishments
.The central axis of the intervention was the “Educational Voucher” proposal, an initiative that seeks to guarantee greater freedom of choice for families. As they explained, the objective is to allow parents to select the education they consider most appropriate for their children, without economic limitations preventing access to private education when they so wish
.“Education has been the scene of different surveys in recent times because of the level of desertion, but also because of the political system that validates the quality of public education, almost 60% send their children to private education,” the organization said. They added that “the fact of not being able to access the education that ordinary people in our society would like, simply because they do not have sufficient economic resources, limits the freedom of individuals to be able to choose and give a better future to their children
