On Saturday night, a brave 25-year-old Venezuelan citizen demonstrated that self-defense is an inalienable right in the face of rampant crime. The incident occurred around 8:40 p.m. at the intersection of Buschental and Lucas Obes, in front of Wanderers Stadium, in the Prado area, when a couple was approached by two armed criminals who attempted to steal their motorcycle.
According to police sources, the assailants, who were riding another motorcycle and wearing helmets, threatened the couple with a firearm while shouting "you're being robbed," demanding the vehicle. However, far from succumbing to fear, the Venezuelan citizen reacted with determination. He drew his weapon—a Glock 19 pistol with proper permit and registration—and fired approximately ten times at the strikers, who fled badly injured toward Agraciada.

Minutes later, authorities confirmed that one of the criminals, a 14-year-old teenager, was admitted to the Police Hospital in critical condition with at least five gunshot wounds to the abdomen. The second assailant, a 21-year-old with a record of theft, was taken in serious condition to the Cerro Coordinated Center. The citizen's swift action not only thwarted the robbery but also enabled authorities to identify those responsible, who now face the consequences of their actions.

This case highlights the importance of guaranteeing the right to self-defense. The Venezuelan citizen, far from being a perpetrator, acted with courage and within the framework of the law to protect his life, his companion's life, and his property in the face of an armed threat. In a context where crime seems to be gaining ground, his response is an example of how a responsible and prepared citizen can confront insecurity.
