A group of workers and former union members from the construction union filed a complaint with the Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC) for several electoral frauds in elections held in Sunca over the years.
The complaint was filed with the MEC because the union has legal status, and this ministry is responsible for overseeing organizations with such status.
Serious irregularities
These serious irregularities indicate that in the union's leadership elections, particularly in the March 2023 elections, where the faction linked to the Communist Party of Uruguay (PCU), the Agustín Pedroza group list, obtained the majority of votes with participation from more than 32,000 workers, there was massive electoral fraud.

The complainants allege that the electoral processes lacked proper controls, with practices including vote manipulation and lack of accountability.
It is noted that these irregularities have occurred for several years, even since the time when Óscar Andrade led the union.
Ballot box theft
The union elections are held over two or three consecutive days, and several workers have pointed out that after the election the ballot box mysteriously disappears, and then it reappears showing signs of tampering.
In all the elections where fraud is reported, the winning list is the one aligned with the Communist Party (PCU) of Andrade and Daniel Diverio, former leader of Sunca and current deputy of that Party.
The Manuel Barrios union faction, a minority group, issued a statement this Friday the 27th regarding the complaint made by several members.
This union faction, which is not part of the PCU, believes that there have been successive electoral frauds in Sunca in favor of the majority list, made up of PCU union members.
The MEC must investigate the electoral frauds, although it is very difficult to reach a satisfactory outcome, since the elections took place years ago and evidence is scarce.
