More than 17,000 drivers were detected with positive blood alcohol levels on Córdoba's highways throughout 2025, according to the official survey by the Dirección General de Policía Caminera.
In total, between January 1 and December 31, 17,062 cases were recorded, a figure that once again raises the alarm about one of the main causes of preventable road accidents.

The figure comes from the monthly breakdown of checkpoints carried out on national and provincial highways and strategic access routes, where January was the month with the highest number of cases (2,174), followed by November (1,662) and September (1,490).
The checkpoints were deployed consistently throughout the year, with no distinction of times or corridors.
Blood alcohol checkpoints in Córdoba
Security Minister Juan Pablo Quinteros explained that "blood alcohol checkpoints don't have a revenue-raising or punitive purpose, but a central objective: to save lives. When we see positive blood alcohol levels on highways, what we see is people who decided to drive and put others at risk. That is unacceptable."
The official stated that "driving under the influence of alcohol isn't a mistake, but a serious act of irresponsibility. Each positive checkpoint is a potential tragedy that we manage to stop in time," he emphasized, while insisting that behind each number there are situations that could have ended in irreversible consequences.
"The message is simple and direct: if you drink, don't drive. If you drive under the influence of alcohol, our Policía Caminera will be there, firmly, to get you off the highway before you ruin your life and someone else's," he stressed.
Córdoba's highways with the most positive blood alcohol levels in 2025
According to the survey by the Dirección General de Policía Caminera, the highest records of positive blood alcohol levels during 2025 were concentrated on the province's main road corridors:
• Ruta Nacional A019 (Avenida de Circunvalación): 4,310 cases • Ruta Nacional 38: 2,594 cases • Ruta Provincial E-5: 1,478 cases • Autopista Ruta 9: 968 cases • Ruta Nacional 19: 940 cases • Ruta Nacional 20: 939 cases • Ruta Nacional 36: 914 cases
These are roads with high daily traffic and strategic access routes to the metropolitan area and to the main tourist destinations, where preventive checkpoints are maintained permanently throughout the year.
"From the provincial government the message is clear and admits no nuances: in Córdoba authorities don't look the other way. Checkpoints will continue day and night, on highways, freeways and urban access routes, with a zero-tolerance policy toward behaviors that kill," Quinteros stated.
