The administration of Donald Trump, through the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS), revealed that the vast majority of arrests carried out by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in 2025 correspond to illegal immigrants with criminal records.
According to the information released, 70% of all ICE arrests involve undocumented immigrants who have been convicted of or charged with a crime in the United States, a figure that the agency used to highlight the importance of its operations.
In that context, DHS highlighted the work carried out by its law enforcement agencies and stated that, over the last 11 months, ICE agents have operated in a climate of strong political and social hostility.

According to the statement, the men and women of the agency have been under constant attack from left-wing politicians, radical activists, and the lies of major media outlets, while they conducted operations to remove dangerous criminals from American communities.
The agency emphasized that federal agents "have risked their lives and safety" in order to expel from the country individuals involved in serious crimes, including murderers, rapists, gang members, drug traffickers, pedophiles, and terrorists. This way, ICE arrests are not focused on immigrants without records, but on individuals with a significant criminal history.
The DHS Deputy Secretary, Tricia McLaughlin, publicly supported the work of law enforcement and highlighted the role played under the current Donald Trump administration.
"Under President Trump and Secretary Noem, criminals are not welcome in the United States. If you come to our country and violate our laws, we will find you, we will arrest you, and we will deport you", she stated.

Illegal immigrants detained by ICE
In its statement, DHS listed some of the arrest cases carried out during the past year. Among them is Olvin Rodríguez-Inestroza, identified as a sexual predator and illegal alien from Honduras. According to the official information, his criminal record includes active arrest warrants for 394 counts of pornography involving minors and two counts of sexual abuse of an animal.
Another case mentioned was that of Diego Barrón-Esquivel, an undocumented immigrant of Mexican origin with a record of violent crimes. DHS indicated that he constantly harassed his wife and that his record includes arrests on multiple counts of domestic violence, violation of protection orders, property damage, aggravated robbery, grand larceny, transportation of an open container, unlawful restraint, possession of drug paraphernalia, and misuse of a motor vehicle.
In December, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison on one count of assault on a federal officer, after violently striking an ICE officer and attempting to strangle him with a cord.
The arrest of Alejandro Lima-Ramírez, an illegal immigrant of Mexican origin and a member of the Florencia 13 gang, was also highlighted. His criminal record, according to DHS, includes 24 arrests and 16 convictions, including for drug trafficking, robbery, fraud, and carrying concealed weapons.
