A car bomb attack in front of a police station in Northern Ireland has once again set off alarm bells about the resurgence of violence in the region. The attack occurred in Dunmurry, just outside Belfast, and is being investigated as an assassination attempt by local police
.The authorities directly point to terrorist groups, in particular the so-called New IRA, as the main suspects behind the attack. According to the Northern Ireland Police (PSNI), the incident has clear similarities with recent attacks, reinforcing the hypothesis
of coordinated action.
The attack was carried out using a previously hijacked vehicle, in which an improvised explosive device based on a gas cylinder was placed. The car was forced to be driven to the police station before detonating, in a methodology that recalls practices used during past decades
of conflict.Despite the seriousness of the incident, there were no fatalities or injuries, largely thanks to the rapid evacuation of the area by the police. Among the evacuees, there were even minors, which shows the risk involved in the attack
