In the framework of a meeting held in Asunción, the CONMEBOL Council decided to unanimously support Gianni Infantino in the face of a possible candidacy for his re-election as president of theFIFAin the period 2027-2031
.
In an official statement, the South American Football Confederation highlighted “the leadership and advances made during his tenure at the head of FIFA, valuing their impact on the development of football”, in a clear sign of political support from the region.

The strong support is nothing new. In January, during the events for Domínguez's ten-year administration at the head of CONMEBOL, the Paraguayan leader highlighted the support and commitment of the FIFA owner to South America. “We deeply value their closeness to our region and their vision to continue to grow this sport around the world,” he said on that occasion
.
Although the candidacies for the 2027 elections have not yet been made official, everything indicates that Infantino will seek a new term, and South American support appears to be a key support on the international stage.
During the meeting, other agenda issues were also addressed, such as the analysis of the economic balance and the budget for the next financial year, in addition to the possibility of implementing a South American qualifying tournament for the 2030 World Cup, which would begin on the first FIFA date of 2027.
