In the framework of a meeting held in Asunción, the CONMEBOL Council decided to unanimously support Gianni Infantino in the face of a possible candidacy for his re-election as president of the FIFA in the period 2027-2031
.In an official statement, the South American Football Confederation highlighted “the leadership and advances made during his tenure at the head of FIFA, valuing their impact on the development of football”, in a clear sign of political support from the region.
The meeting, which takes place in the run-up to the CONMEBOL Congress to be held on April 23 in Quito, was attended by Alejandro Domínguez, the head of the South American entity, and the ten heads of the member associations, including the mobster Claudio “Chiqui” Tapia , who was able to attend thanks to a judicial authorization.
