The Government of Javier Milei has already eliminated a total of 67,253 public jobs across the country since its inauguration, saving billions of pesos, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec).

The figure reflects the scope of a sustained policy of reduction by the State, aimed at reducing public spending and advancing the reduction of taxes.

The official report details that most of the reduction was concentrated in the National Public Administration (APN). In November 2023, prior to the start of the current administration, there were 233,098 positions in that area, while currently the number has fallen to 187,734. This implies a decrease of 45,364 employees in that segment

Within the APN, the loss was distributed in different dependencies. Of the 45,364 workers who left their positions, 22,975 were in the decentralized administration, 16,893 in the centralized administration, 3,885 in the decentralized administration

and 1,611 in other entities.

This process took place in parallel with a reform of the State, where several areas were eliminated or restructured, which resulted in the disappearance of multiple positions.

The trend was also replicated in the area of state companies and corporations. In November 2023, this sector had 110,259 employees, a figure that fell to 88,370

in March 2026.

As a result, there was a cut of 21,889 workers. In this case, the decline was linked to the closure of companies and to privatization processes promoted by the Government, which resulted in the departure of thousands of employees

Far from being an isolated measure, the most recent data reflect the continuity of this policy. During March, the total number of employees at all levels of the public sector reached 276,104, representing a drop of 818 positions compared

to February.

Of this total, 479 correspond to the National Public Administration, while 339 are explained by the reduction in companies and corporations.

With these numbers, the adjustment of the workforce is reaffirmed as one of the main tools chosen by the libertarian administration to make progress in reducing the size of the State.

Along these lines, the president himself recently argued that “the real fiscal pressure is the size of the State”, a definition that reinforces the Government's orientation towards the continuity of these measures in the coming months.

The process of cutting public employment is thus part of a broader strategy that seeks to organize public accounts, reduce spending and create conditions for reducing the tax burden, benefiting millions of Argentines.
