Israel launched a military offensive against the Islamic terrorist group Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, in parallel with the conflict against Iran. The operation included air strikes and the expansion of the Israeli military presence in the border area

.

As confirmed by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the attacks targeted strategic positions of the Tehran-backed Shiite group in southern Lebanon, the east of the Bekaa Valley and the southern suburbs of Beirut, known as Dahieh, considered political and military strongholds of Hezbollah.

The Israeli offensive came after Hezbollah launched rockets and drones into Israeli territory for the second consecutive day. According to the IDF, most of the projectiles hit the sea or in unpopulated areas, and only one had to be intercepted by

air defense systems.

From Israel, they described the group's offensive as “limited” and largely symbolic, but they responded with military action to prevent an even greater escalation

.

In parallel with the air strikes, the Israeli army announced that it slightly expanded its security zone in southern Lebanon, adding new positions to the five it has held in the area since the ceasefire reached in November 2024.

However, the IDF's Northern Command noted that a full-scale ground invasion “is not imminent” and that any decision to that effect will depend on the evolution of the front with Iran.

The Israeli army maintains that Hezbollah could be progressively weakened without the training, strategic guidance and funding of Iran, its main supporter, which is currently being severely attacked by Israel and the United States, who seek to finally end the Islamic regime and its terrorist practices.

According to Israeli assessments, the group depends almost exclusively on Iranian funds, which could be affected in the midst of the crisis in

Tehran.

At the same time, although the Lebanese army would have tried to curb movements of Hezbollah's Radwan commandos to the south, the organization maintains an important arsenal of rockets and operational capacity.

During the 2023-2024 conflict, Israel managed to leave Hezbollah heavily weakened. The group's main leaders were killed, including its veteran leader, Hassan Nasrallah; many of its fighters died and part of its arsenal was destroyed. The conflict ended with a ceasefire agreement in November 2024, and with the organization weak and isolated
