In that previous ruling, Argentina had been ordered to pay more than USD 16 billion in the context of litigation initiated more than a decade ago
.
At noon, Milei publicly celebrated the judicial decision and took aim at the ultra-Kirchnerist governor Axel Kicillof, who served as Minister of Economy during the company's nationalization process in 2012, under the presidency of the corrupt and convicted Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.
In this context, the president said: “We had to come and fix the shit out of the useless, imbecile and incompetent of (Axel) Kicillof during the second administration of the corrupt and imprisoned Cristina Kirchner.”
The head of state had also highlighted the ruling through his social networks, where he described it as a milestone for the country.
President Javier Milei.
“The House has just completely revoked the conviction against Argentina: the best possible scenario (and with less than 15% probability of occurrence). This implies that Argentina should not pay anything of the approximately USD 18 billion today (a little more than the IMF loan was in 2024),” he said. In addition, he defined it as something “historic and unimaginable” and “the greatest legal achievement in national history
”.
The message will be recorded in the Casa Rosada, from where the President will seek to consolidate the political impact of the judicial decision.
The favorable ruling marks a turning point in a judicial process that lasted for years and that involved a significant economic risk for the country.
