Several weeks after his final departure, Marcelo Moretti is still giving something to talk about in San Lorenzo. A contract signed before a notary public in November 2024 exposed a reserved negotiation between the former president and Foster Gillett, previously related to Estudiantes de La Plata, which contemplated an ambitious economic and sports plan that included

the control of professional football.

The proposal linked the club to the American businessman, who was represented in this negotiation by the commission agent Nazareno Navone. The document was valid for 45 days and was subject to a strict confidentiality clause, which explains why it was never publicly communicated to

the partners.

The project envisaged a total investment of 612 million dollars, divided into two phases. In the first instance, it was aimed at the consolidation of liabilities, estimated at about 40 million, the construction of a new Sports City and the acquisition of land in Boedo. As the central axis, the construction of a roofed stadium for 55,000 spectators was planned on Avenida La Plata, with a budget close to 220 million and an estimated start date between July and August 2025

.

The second phase was aimed at sports and institutional development, with 100 million earmarked to strengthen the professional squad and another 200 million to form a trust that would guarantee the operation of the club, with coverage for annual operating expenses. In addition, additional funds were contemplated for the implementation of the agreement

The scheme did not formally involve the conversion into a Sports Limited Company (SAD), but it did involve the creation of a new associative legal figure.

Within this framework, the investor would provide the capital, while San Lorenzo would transfer key assets: income from player transfers, television rights, brand exploitation, use of the stadium and different sources of financing

linked to football.

One of the most sensitive points of the agreement was the fate of the current stadium. The New Gasometer was to be relegated to activities such as women's football, reservation and recreational events, while the main focus would be shifted to the new

venue in Boedo.

Despite the magnitude of the project, the initiative never advanced. The document contemplated a phase of due diligence and final approval at an assembly of partners, an instance that was never convened. In addition, it was not discussed in the Board of Directors either.

The secrecy surrounding the negotiation raised questions behind closed doors, especially since the partners were not involved in a proposal that could have redefined the institutional model of San Lorenzo.
