The Argentine Football Association (AFA) was once again involved in a controversy after the dissemination of alleged chats involving the referee Luis Lobo Medina and a leader close to the body that presides over the corrupt Claudio "Chiqui" Tapia, in the context of an alleged match arrangement in a past edition of the First National
.
The conversations, announced in the program Do You See It? from TN, they also involve Juan Pablo Beacon, former leader linked to Pablo Toviggino, treasurer of the AFA and Tapia's right hand man. The messages were reportedly obtained by the Justice after the expertise of Beacon's cell phone in a
parallel case.
The axis of the scandal is set in the match between Tigre and Mitre de Santiago del Estero, played on October 12, 2021 and which ended in a 3-3 draw. That match came under suspicion due to two key arbitration decisions: the expulsion of a Mitre player in the first half and a much discussed penalty in the complement that led to the Victoria team's tie
.
The
chats, prior to the meeting, read: "Hello Luis, I'm Juan Pablo Beacon. Pablo's friend
(Toviggino)”. To which the referee replies: “What are you doing dear. All right? ”. Then they move forward in coordination: “Have you arrived yet? What time do you go to the court? “, consult Beacon, and Lobo Medina answers:" Yes, a while ago.”
In another exchange, the referee writes: "Good day teacher, when you want to send me the coordinates and I'll go, I'm ready.” Beacon gives him an address (Lavalle 1718, 4th C), known today as “la Rosadita de la AFA”, where a video of Beacon counting dollars was previously broadcast. “Give it my friend, I wait for you,” the former leader closed
.
After the game, the judge sends him a message: “Juan Pablo. I worked a band. Tigre played poorly.” The answer is: “You left everything, brother. Rest assured that these things can be seen. My friend is very pleased.”
The material also includes dialogues with Toviggino, scheduled as “Tovi II”: "Brother, ask me for 400 Lobito" (Editor's note: it refers to 400,000 pesos, approximately 4,000 dollars at the time), followed by “Are we here? Davinci is there
.”
To which Beacon replies: "Haha, now I see. Tomorrow at 2:30 p.m., he leaves for the hotel. I've already arranged to meet him at 10.30.” Then she continues: “Yes, Carucha, don't stretch her too much because there are several referees out there and she has a hard time moving,” and Beacon concludes: "No no, I see it there. I've fixed everything. I'll see you tomorrow, brother.”
Although the authenticity of the chats was not officially confirmed, the case quickly escalated and went from the media to the judicial level. Buenos Aires representative Facundo Del Gaiso filed a criminal complaint for fraud and fraud
against Lobo Medina.
“Penalty against Lobo Medina. The complaint for fraud and fraud has already been filed,” the legislator published, “With a different AFA, the arbitrators would have to submit an affidavit of assets. The chats are from 2022,we have to investigate the assets of many of them... and if there is a Rosadita for referees,” he added. “Surely now the referee strike is coming,”
The episode revives criticism about the transparency of the AFA and refereeing in Argentine football. Meanwhile, Lobo Medina is still active and is even assigned a match from the current date of the 2026 Apertura Tournament, coincidentally a Banfield -
