The reduction in poverty in Argentina over the past two years is not only notable for its enormous magnitude in percentage terms, but also for the speed with which millions of people managed to get out of that condition.
Under the management of President Javier Milei, the data show a large scale phenomenon that acquires an even clearer dimension when broken down into units of time.
Between the first half of 2024 and the second half of 2025, a total of 11,460,800 Argentines stopped living below the poverty line.
This figure, projecting a total population of 46,400,000, stems from a drop of 24.7 percentage points, from a peak of 52.9% inherited from Kirchnerism to 28.2%, the lowest level since the beginning of 2018.
Argentines who came out of poverty
However, beyond the percentages, the figure acquires another relevance when translated into rhythm. Over the 731 days spanning the years 2024 and 2025, the process meant that, on average, every 5 and a half seconds, an Argentinian ceased to be
poor. The dynamics become even stronger when viewed on larger scales.
Every minute, 11 people were lifted out of poverty; per hour, 653; and per day, 15,678 Argentines managed to overcome that condition, a figure equivalent to the full capacity of the Movistar Arena. In weekly terms, the number rises to 109,746 people, even exceeding the number of spectators that the River Monumental Stadium can host.
