After ending its relationship with Torneos and TRISA, the governing body of Argentine football is considering whether to create its own platform or put the rights out to tender with new companies

The Argentine Football Association (AFA) confirmed the end of the agreement it had maintained since 2016 with Torneos y Competencias S.A. and Tele Red Imagen S.A. (TRISA), a contract that had undergone a significant modification in 2019. After the last matches of the Primera Nacional and Primera B Metropolitana of the 2025 season, the relationship will be formally concluded.
For the upcoming season, AFA announced that it will begin a comprehensive evaluation process to determine which broadcasting model it will adopt. Among the alternatives under consideration is the possibility of developing its own streaming platform, a path that several international leagues have already incorporated with good results. The other option is to open a bidding process, so that different companies in the market can submit proposals to acquire the rights.
La AFA podría tener su propia plataforma de streaming o licitar los derechos de transmisión
Meanwhile, the main objective of this redefinition is to increase the financial resources received by clubs in both categories. AFA believes that the termination of the contract with Torneos represents an opportunity to update the values, improve the quality of broadcasts, and expand the visibility of Argentine lower divisions. In the coming weeks, the entity will move forward with technical, financial, and digital studies to determine which scheme best suits the competitive needs and institutional growth of the leagues involved.
In any case, the reality is that this is a negative change in the lower division tournaments. If there have already been questionable refereeing and scandalous episodes so far, the fact that it may become more difficult to watch the matches could make thefts more frequent and more blatant in favor of teams close to those in power.
