AFA is evaluating Marcelo Moretti's future following the investigation at San Lorenzo

The Ethics Committee could allow the continuation of the president on leave, while internal tensions within the club are growing

Several months have passed since Marcelo Morettirequested a leave of absence as president ofSan Lorenzo following the release of controversial videos that could involve bribery. The Argentine Football Association (AFA), under the leadership of Claudio "Chiqui" Tapia, initiated an investigation into the Ciclón's executive, who is also a board member of the organization, and according to journalist Germán García Grova, there could be a resolution in the coming days.

San Lorenzo's Ethics and Discipline Tribunal requested on July 14 the removal, disqualification, and expulsion of Moretti from the club. However, AFA replied by invoking the principle of non bis in idem, which establishes that a person can't be tried twice for the same act, and halted the internal proceedings, leaving the decision in the hands of the Ethics Committee of the governing body of Argentine football.

The journalist from TyC Sports and Radio La Red stated on his X account: "AFA's Ethics Committee would issue a resolution in the coming days, stating that there are no impediments for Marcelo Moretti to continue as a member of the Executive Committee." He also indicated that this decision is expected to be announced together with the resolution of the ordinary justice system.

This scenario opens the door for Moretti to return to the presidency of San Lorenzo, a position he aspires to and which depends on the approval of both the courts and AFA.

Within the club, the news is causing division, since some members of the ruling party have already warned that they would resign if Moretti returns to his position, such as Julio Lopardo, the current interim president. The focus now is on how the broad political spectrum of the Ciclón will react to this possible return.
