The city of Sassari, on the Italian island of Sardinia, was left in shock after an act of extreme violence. An African immigrant kidnapped, tortured, and raped a 22-year-old Italian woman, in an episode of brutality that is difficult to comprehend. This incident once again places public safety and the control of those entering the country at the center of the debate.
The assault was not limited to the physical attack, as the African man also recorded part of the abuse and sent the material to the young woman's mother. Investigators described this as a deliberate action to intimidate, extort, and generate terror. It was precisely that message that allowed the alarm to be raised and prevented an even worse outcome.

The rescue
After receiving the images, the victim's mother immediately contacted the police, which led to an urgent operation. Officers managed to locate the young woman inside the suspect's residence. She was rescued alive from there, although she was completely disoriented and had extremely severe injuries.
Medical personnel confirmed that the victim showed clear signs of having been subjected to brutal violence. Although medical details remain confidential, the hospital reported that they managed to stabilize her and that her life is not in danger. The victim survived despite the magnitude of the attack she suffered.

An assailant with a criminal record and an ongoing investigation
At the time of the raid, the assailant resisted violently, forcing officers to use a taser to immobilize him and proceed with his arrest. Authorities confirmed that he is not a stranger to the judicial system: he has a criminal record and a significant history of offenses.
The main line of investigation keeps that the attack may have been motivated by an alleged debt that the detainee was demanding from the victim. Given the seriousness of the events, the Prosecutor's Office opened a case for kidnapping for extortion, torture, and sexual assault. These are serious crimes that have caused deep social outrage.
Meanwhile, as the investigation progresses under strict confidentiality, the case strongly reopens the debate on the need to guarantee public order and exercise effective controls over those who cross the borders.
