Amazon Prime Video confirmed the premiere of Menem, its new original series based on the life of former Argentine president Carlos Saúl Menem. The global launch will take place on July 9, after a legal dispute that delayed its arrival on the platform was solved.

The political drama, with elements of humor, stars Leonardo Sbaraglia as Menem and Griselda Siciliani as Zulema Yoma. The production is backed by Claxson and Yulgok Media.

The legal dispute that delayed the premiere

The series had been temporarily suspended by order of civil judge Carlos Goggi, following a complaint filed by Carlos Nair Menem, son of the former president. The claim demanded evidence regarding the transfer of rights to carry out the series.

The precautionary measure halted not only the broadcast but also any promotion related to the series in media and on social networks. However, the dispute was recently solved when a document signed by Menem himself before his death in 2021 was presented, expressly authorizing the production of the series.

A drama that brings a key figure back to life

Menem portrays the political rise of the leader from La Rioja, beginning with the 1989 presidential campaign. The first season will have six episodes that will be available in full from the day of the premiere.

The cast also includes Juan Minujín, Jorgelina Aruzzi, Marco Antonio Caponi, Agustín Sullivan, Cumelén Sanz, Alberto Ajaka, Violeta Urtizberea, and Martín Campi Campilongo.

The scenes were filmed in iconic locations such as Quinta de Olivos, Casa Rosada, and La Rioja. More than 90 members of the technical and artistic team traveled to this province to recreate key moments from the period when Menem was governor.

With this series, Amazon Prime Video strengthens its commitment to original content in Latin America. In Argentina, it has already premiered titles such as Barrabrava, El Fin del Amor, Los Tinelli, Cromañón, Maradona: Sueño Bendito, Porno y Helado, LOL: Last One Laughing Argentina, and Iosi: El Espía Arrepentido.
