Minister of the Interior, Diego Santilli, will receive the United States Ambassador to Argentina, Peter Lamelas, this morning. The meeting will be at 10:30 in Santilli's office at Casa Rosada. According to official sources, the agenda will be brief, protocolary, and introductory since both have recently assumed their current positions.
Around the same time, President Javier Milei could arrive, since at noon the swearing-in ceremony of Alejandra Monteoliva as the new Minister of Security will take place.
Lamelas's diplomatic agenda
Today marks one month since Lamelas formally began his diplomatic duties in the country—when he presented his credentials on November 4. Since then, he has held multiple meetings with most of the liberal cabinet.

He visited Luis Petri (Defense), Luis Caputo (Economy), Pablo Quirno (Foreign Affairs), Federico Sturzenegger (Deregulation), and Mario Lugones (Health). The Embassy explains that these are introductory meetings and that "there will be more in the future."
Last Monday, he met with Patricia Bullrich and Alejandra Monteoliva from the Ministry of Security. There, they signed a memorandum that incorporates a representative of the Argentine Federal Police into the Dorado Task Force in New York. Lamelas highlighted the objective of the agreement: "This is an agreement that will allow us to track the money of terrorists, traffickers, and criminals."

The background: progress in the Milei–Trump trade agreement
Today's meeting takes place while the trade agreement between Argentina and the United States continues to progress. Lamelas stated in November that the understanding between Milei and Donald Trump is "historic". He also emphasized that "the United States government is convinced of the importance of supporting Argentina's growth."
