This Tuesday, Ángel De Brito caused a strong media impact by revealing on LAM (América) the existence of legal complaints against Maru Botana and her husband, Bernardo Solá for unpaid wages and alleged workplace harassment and bullying. The host showed documentation from the case file and provided details about the financial settlement that the parties would have reached.
"Judicial scandal", De Brito introduced on air, before providing context for the case. As he explained, this would not be the first time that a situation of this kind has reached his show.
"Some time ago a girl wrote to us who felt harassed by Maru Botana's husband. She was going to give an interview and, coincidentally, they reached a legal settlement and the interview did not take place", he pointed out, hinting that there had been similar precedents.
Maru Botana y su marido fueron denunciados
Immediately afterward, the journalist explained that a few weeks ago a former employee who worked at a Maru Botana shop located on Echeverría Street filed a lawsuit against the pastry chef and her husband.
"She sued her for unpaid wages and, particularly, she sued Bernardo Solá for workplace harassment and bullying, all in the National Court of First Instance No. 47", De Brito specified.
What does the former employee accuse them of?
Always according to the host's account, the complaint describes situations that would have created an intimidating work environment.
"Mr. Solá habitually observed specific parts of the plaintiff's body, and even of the bodies of other female workers, which not only made her uncomfortable, but also forced her to stop wearing makeup and to arrive at work looking more unkempt", De Brito read, quoting excerpts from the legal document.
The host clarified that this is what is stated in the complaint filed by the worker, and that the case did not reach a trial stage because the parties opted for a conciliatory settlement.
De Brito also gave details of the financial settlement that would have been reached. "It was a transactional settlement. Approval was requested and payment was made of an attached amount. Afterwards, the lifting of the attachment was requested", he explained.
As he specified, the former employee readjusted the amount of her claim "including interest calculated to date in the sum of 50 million pesos (50 million pesos)", with the aim of reaching a conciliation. In that context, the host read a key excerpt from the settlement: "The defendants, without acknowledging facts or law, and for conciliatory purposes, agree and undertake to pay said amounts to the plaintiff".
