The arrival of Franco Colapinto to Formula 1 with Williams in 2024 marked ahistoric milestone for Argentine motorsport. After 23 years without national representatives, since Gastón Mazzacane in 2001, his breakthrough in the top category was celebrated throughout the country and quickly made him one of the greatest sports figures of the moment.
However, Colapinto might not be the only Argentine in the top category for long. In recent hours, Nicolás Varrone, a 25-year-old driver from Ingeniero Maschwitz, Buenos Aires, set social media and fans' hopes alight with a message that could foreshadow his arrival in the elite of motorsport.
Varrone surprised by posting on X: "God not only listens, he's also Argentine", quoting an old tweet of his from 2024 in which, after the confirmation of the new GM/Cadillac team for the 2026 Formula 1 season, he had written with humor and hope: "God, do you hear me?".

His words reignited rumors and some theorize that it could be about his inclusion in the Cadillac project as a development driver or even having a guaranteed seat in Formula 2, the step before the top division. Beyond the expectations this may generate, so far he hasn't given any further details.
Negotiations and firm steps
At the beginning of 2025, Varrone revealed that three F2 teams had him on their radar. "There are three teams with which I'm already having verbal talks that, as soon as they need a driver or someone steps down mid-season, I'll be the one moving up", he had anticipated.

His connection with the category was strengthened in May of this year, when he tested a Campos Racing single-seater at the MotorLand Aragón circuit in Spain. He also took part in an official training session at the end of 2024, which fueled the possibility of an imminent announcement.
