Another departure at River: Leandro González Pírez will have his second spell at Estudiantes

The center-back is completing his second stint with Millonario and will sign with the La Plata club for two seasons

No more: Leandro González Pírez ends his second spell at River. After two and a half years, the defender leaves the Millonario to become a new signing for Estudiantes de La Plata, where he will also have a second stint.

The center-back had only six months left on his contract and was eligible to negotiate his arrival as a free agent for 2026. However, an early termination was agreed upon through financial compensation, which allowed for a quicker incorporation into the squad led by Eduardo Domínguez.

With his departure now confirmed, González Pírez will sign a contract with the club from La Plata until mid-2027. His arrival represents a key reinforcement for Estudiantes, which needed to strengthen its defense after a semester marked by inconsistent performances and departures such as Sebastián Boselli.

Pincha, which recently lost to Vélez in the final of the Supercopa Internacional, will make its debut in the Torneo Clausura on Monday, July 14 at 9:15 p.m. as a visitor against Unión. In the Copa Libertadores, it will face Cerro Porteño, with the first leg scheduled for August 13 in Paraguay.

Meanwhile, the Millonario will debut against reigning champion Platense on Sunday the 13th at 9 p.m., while in the Libertadores it will play Libertad on August 14, also in Paraguay.

González Pírez's time at River

Since his return at the beginning of 2022, Leandro González Pírez has played 101 official matches with the Millonario under the management of Marcelo Gallardo and Martín Demichelis. Since then, he has scored 6 goals, provided 2 assists, received 26 yellow cards, and was sent off once.

Adding both of his spells at the club, he says goodbye with a total of 144 official matches, 7 goals, 2 assists, and 11,581 minutes on the field. He also won three titles: the Liga Profesional, the Trofeo de Campeones, and the Supercopa Argentina, all achieved in 2023.
