Vasco da Gama submitted an offer higher than Xeneize's and signed the Colombian winger, one of the president's main wishes in this transfer window

The negotiation that Boca had been holding for weeks for Marino Hinestroza came to an end with an adverse outcome for the club from La Ribera. The 23-year-old Colombian winger agreed to leave Atlético Nacional and will be a new Vasco da Gama player, which improved the financial offer and secured his transfer.
The Brazilian side submitted an offer of 6 million dollars for 80% of his rights, in addition to 20% in capital gains, an amount that exceeded Boca's offer by one million. Atlético Nacional, owner of the federative rights, accepted the proposal and on January 20 the agreement between all parties was finalized.
Hinestroza es nuevo refuerzo de Vasco da Gama
The management led by Juan Román Riquelme had expectations of completing the deal, since it considered Hinestroza as the main, and possibly only, target of the transfer window. However, beyond the stance of the Colombian club, the player's final decision ended up tipping the scales in favor of the Rio de Janeiro team.
The frustrated arrival of the winger caused discontent in the Boca world and the fans targeted the president and Marcelo "Chelo" Delgado directly, who are responsible for the football department. In the coming hours an official statement is expected that will explain how the negotiations unfolded and why the transfer could not be completed.
Los hinchas explotaron contra Riquelme y la dirigencia de Boca
Meanwhile, Hinestroza will sign a contract with Vasco da Gama until December 2030, with an option to extend it for one more season, and shortly he will travel to Rio de Janeiro to place himself at Fernando Diniz's disposal, the current coach of the Brazilian team, which will play in the 2026 Copa Sudamericana.
In addition, with the Colombian's move falling through, the outlook becomes even more complex for Boca ahead of the start of the Torneo Apertura. Five days before the official debut, the team has not registered any new signings and will also not be able to count on its main striker: Miguel Merentiel. The Uruguayan suffered a calf strain and will miss the opener against Deportivo Riestra at La Bombonera, as well as some of the first fixtures of the tournament. With this situation, together with the injuries to Edinson Cavani and Milton Giménez, the only available forwards are Lucas Janson, who has played just 43 matches since his arrival in mid-2023, and the youngster Íker Zufiaurre.
