The perpetrator of the massacre at a rural high school in Canada identified as a woman and suffered from a mental illness, according to what the police confirmed this Wednesday. The authorities identified 18-year-old Jesse Van Rootselaar as the person responsible for the deaths of six people, with another 25 injured.
Van Rootselaar, who was found dead in the school, began "transitioning" about six years ago, police chief Dwayne McDonald said. "I can say that Jesse was born as a biological male who began transitioning to female approximately six years ago and identified as a woman, both socially and publicly," McDonald commented.
The police chief used female pronouns to refer to the killer despite the fact that he was a man and repeatedly referred to him as "she" during the press conference that he gave Wednesday afternoon.

The striker's mother and sister were also killed
Two other people, the suspect's 39-year-old mother and his 11-year-old half-brother, were also found dead in a nearby house and their deaths are under investigation. McDonald stated that the police had confiscated weapons in the residence in previous years and that officers had already visited the house several times,
Van Rootselaar had even been detained in the past because of his mental health problems. Despite this information, investigators refused to disclose the striker's name and sex in the first hours after the attack had occurred.
Speculation about the striker's sex began to circulate after a YouTube account linked to him emerged. "After this horrific incident, our Trust and Safety teams identified and removed a YouTube channel associated with the alleged suspect in accordance with our Creator Responsibility Guidelines," YouTube told the outlet The Daily Wire.
