The state oil company YPF and the Italian energy company Eni signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to advance a new stage of the ambitious Argentina LNG project, which aims to turn the country into a reliable global supplier of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
A strategic agreement to export gas from Vaca Muerta
The agreement was signed by the president and CEO of YPF, Horacio Marín, and the CEO of Eni, Claudio Descalzi, and includes the comprehensive development of a phase of the project that includes:
- Gas production in Vaca Muerta
- Its transportation
- Liquefaction through floating units
- And LNG export
Specifically, it is planned to install two floating liquefaction units with a capacity of 6 million tons per year (MTPA) each, totaling 12 MTPA, a significant figure for the global natural gas trade.
"We are extremely pleased to sign this agreement with Eni, which will allow us to accelerate the timeline of the Argentina LNG project. We see great global interest, both from large companies and gas-buying countries from Vaca Muerta," highlighted Horacio Marín.
Meanwhile, Claudio Descalzi emphasized that YPF's choice of Eni "reflects the experience and global leadership we have developed in similar projects in Congo and Mozambique."
