Argentinian pilots are training to learn how to operate F-16 fighter jets.
They are being trained to operate and maintain the F-16 fighter jets that Milei's government acquired in 2024
A group of pilots and technicians from the Argentine Air Force (FAA) is currently in the United States, specifically at the training center of the company Top Aces, located in the city of Mesa, Arizona, where they are being trained to operate and maintain the F-16 fighter jets that the Government of Javier Milei acquired in 2024. The training represents a strategic step in the modernization of the national air defense system.
The training, which is part of the F-16M weapons system implementation program, includes theoretical instruction, hands-on training with tools, flight simulator training, and practical exercises in real aircraft.
Argentine pilots will also receive training in air combat tactics, night flying, electronic warfare, and in-flight refueling. Before arriving in Arizona, the technicians and pilots completed an intensive English program at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas as part of the technical and linguistic adaptation process.

Additionally, a second stage of advanced training is planned at Skrydstrup Air Base in Denmark, where the F-16s that will be transferred to Argentina are currently operating. There, Argentine aviators will complete a "shoulder-to-shoulder training" process, accompanying Danish pilots in real operations to refine their skills in tactical scenarios.
A historic purchase
This international training deployment is a key part of the historic F-16 aircraft acquisition agreement, formalized in April 2024, through which Argentina, under the administration of Javier Milei, purchased 24 fighter jets from Denmark.
The operation, valued at approximately 300 million dollars, was considered the largest incorporation of military air assets in more than 40 years and represents a deep change in the deterrent capability of the Argentine Air Force.

The agreement includes not only the transfer of the aircraft but also the provision of spare parts, weapons systems, logistical maintenance, and comprehensive personnel training. Milei's government's decision to move forward with this purchase was interpreted as a clear signal of strategic alignment with the United States and its allies, as well as a firm commitment to the modernization of the Armed Forces.
The F-16s will initially be deployed at the VI Air Brigade in Tandil, although their subsequent distribution to other operational units such as Río Cuarto is also being considered. The objective is for the aircraft to be fully integrated and operational within the national defense framework by the end of 2026.
With this addition, Argentina joins the group of Latin American countries operating fourth-generation fighter jets, raising its technological standard and regaining air capability after decades of deterioration in the defense sector.
