Meat consumption in Argentina grew again in 2025 and reached its highest level in the last five years. According to official data from the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries, total per capita consumption of beef, poultry, and pork reached 116.4 kilograms (256.7 pounds) per inhabitant, which represents a year-on-year increase of 3.85%.
In absolute terms, each Argentine consumed on average 4.3 kilograms (9.5 pounds) more meat than in 2024, consolidating a trend of recovery in domestic consumption that contradicts forecasts that anticipated a sustained decline in the demand for animal proteins.

According to the survey carried out by the National Directorate of Livestock Production, total consumption went from 112.16 kilograms (247.3 pounds) per capita in 2024 to 116.4 kilograms (256.7 pounds) in 2025. This increase was observed in the three main categories of meat that make up the local diet, although with different performances.
Beef recorded an increase of 2.94%, rising from 48.49 kilos (106.9 pounds) per inhabitant in 2024 to 49.92 kilos (110.0 pounds) in 2025. Although the growth was more moderate compared with other cuts, the data confirm that beef consumption remains stable and far from the collapse scenarios that have become established in public debate in recent years.
The greatest dynamism was observed in pork, which showed growth of 8.44%. Per capita consumption rose from 17.42 kilos (38.4 pounds) to 18.89 kilos (41.6 pounds) in a single year, becoming one of the main drivers of the increase in total meat consumption. In net terms, pork contributed an additional 1.47 kilos (3.2 pounds) per inhabitant to the annual total.

Poultry meat also had a positive performance. Chicken consumption grew by 3.07%, rising from 46.25 kilos (101.9 pounds) per capita in 2024 to 47.68 kilos (105.1 pounds) in 2025, adding 1.42 additional kilos (3.1 pounds) per person. This behavior reinforces a structural trend of diversification in the intake of animal proteins.
From the Secretariat of Agriculture, officials emphasized that the increase in consumption reflects a greater variety in Argentines' diet and is the highest recorded in the 2020–2025 series. In addition, they stressed that the results reflect the work aimed at strengthening production, improving the sector's competitiveness, and ensuring the population's access to nutritionally high-quality food.
