The Board of Directors of Colchonero unanimously supported the decision not to negotiate with the Catalan club and questioned the way it pursued its interest
The tension between the Atlético de Madrid and Barcelona regarding the future of Julián Álvarez has become even more exposed. While the Argentine forward is on the radar of the Catalan team, the Madrid club has taken a definitive stance and decided to close any possibility of negotiating his departure with the institution led by Joan Laporta.
The Board of Directors of the team unanimously supported the decision and issued a statement in which it established the conditions under which it is willing to engage in conversations during the transfer market. "Atlético de Madrid is open to negotiations typical of the transfer market, but always in an ethical and professional manner and with respect between clubs," the entity emphasized.
From that standpoint, the Colchonero pointed directly at Barcelona and stated that it has not met those requirements. "We fully support the position previously communicated by the club that FC Barcelona has not met these requirements and therefore there has been no negotiation with them regarding the transfer of Julián Alvarez, nor will there be", expressed the Board.
Atlético does not want Julián Álvarez to go to Barcelona
The statement also aimed to send a message to the player himself. The club assured that it trusts Álvarez will understand the institutional determination and can refocus on his sporting objectives. "Atlético de Madrid is convinced that our player will understand the decision, focusing on working in the best way to help the club achieve its goals, as he has already done in the two seasons he has been defending our colors", it stated.
The situation arises, moreover, amid some uncertainty surrounding the forward, who has accumulated two consecutive days without participating in the team's training sessions. Atlético attributed his absences to an "indisposition", while doubts about his situation grow as the market closure approaches.
Beyond that situation, the red-and-white club currently maintains a clear line: there will be no negotiation with Barcelona for Álvarez. With the market in its final stretch, it remains to be seen how the forward's stance will evolve and whether the Catalan team's interest will find any way to advance despite Atlético's refusal.
