Automotive production grew by 6% in the first eight months of 2025.
The Argentine automotive industry showed a recovery in production and wholesale sales, although challenges in exports persist
Automobile production in August reached 44,454 units at the country's nine industrial plants. According to data from the Association of Automotive Manufacturers (ADEFA), the result showed an average of 2,222 vehicles per day, 20% more than in July.
Although the comparison with August 2023 reflects a 13.8% decrease, the cumulative balance from January to August shows a 6.2% increase. During that period, 332,135 units were manufactured compared to 312,589 last year.
Exports: the main concern for the national sector
The export segment remains the Achilles' heel of the sector. In August, 25,503 vehicles were shipped abroad, 39.9% more than in July but 22.1% less than in August 2023.
In the eight-month cumulative period, exports totaled 173,382 units, 7.7% less than the same period of the previous year. The decline is due to competition from Asian countries and the lack of free trade agreements that would grant tariff advantages to Argentine vehicles.

Martín Zuppi, president of ADEFA, emphasized that they are working together with the public sector on an agenda to improve competitiveness, reduce the tax burden, and expand access to international markets.
Wholesale sales in strong recovery
Wholesale sales were the most positive aspect of the report. In August, manufacturers delivered 51,766 units to the dealership network, 3.1% more than in July and 33.8% more than in the same month of 2023.
The January-August cumulative period recorded 400,953 units sold, representing an increase of 71.6% compared to the 233,711 from last year.

Challenges for competitiveness
Although the domestic market is driving the recovery, the Argentine automotive industry faces the challenge of maintaining its presence abroad. Manufacturers are calling for clear rules, lower tax pressure, and a broader network of international agreements that would allow them to compete under better conditions against global rivals.
The sector's performance for the remainder of the year will depend on how these variables are solved, with the expectation of consolidating growth in production and maintaining the dynamism of domestic sales.
