El Sifón will meet at the club's training ground in Ezeiza with Juan Román Riquelme to agree on his future as head coach in 2026
While Boca's squad has already been released from its obligations after the elimination against Racing in the semifinals of the Torneo Clausura, Claudio Úbeda's future as first team coach will be decided in the coming hours. According to TyC Sports journalist Leandro "Tato" Aguilera, "Sifón" will have a key meeting with Juan Román Riquelme today at the Ezeiza training ground to finalize the details of his continuity as head coach.
Despite the doubts that arose after the defeat against la Academia, especially due to the lack of reaction in the game and the decision to substitute Exequiel Zeballos, the club president's position has not changed: he will offer Úbeda to continue as coach through 2026.
The idea is to strengthen the coaching staff, which is currently incomplete after the death of Miguel Ángel Russo, who had him as an assistant along with Juvenal Rodríguez in his last tenure. For this reason, Riquelme will propose adding an assistant coach chosen by himself.
En caso de seguir en Boca, Úbeda sumaría un ayudante de campo
Another point to solve is the contractual situation. Úbeda has a contract as a member of the coaching staff until June 2026, so they must decide whether to maintain the current agreement, but with a different role, or to sign a new contract that formally establishes him as head coach until December of next year.
Despite the recent setback, the board values the order he achieved at the end of a challenging yearand his management within the locker room. In this regard, it is only a matter of time before the board officially confirms his continuity to face 2026, in which the main goal will be the Copa Libertadores.
Úbeda's numbers as Boca's head coach
Claudio Úbeda made his debut on the bench for the club from la Ribera in the 2-1 defeat against Defensa y Justicia, a match in which he had to replace Miguel Ángel Russo due to health complications, as well as in the subsequent 5-0 victory over Newell's. After the passing of the historic coach on October 8, "Sifón" took over as the team's head coach. In total, he recorded 7 wins (6 consecutive, including the Superclásico against River) and 3 losses (the last one against Racing).
