Amid the ongoing saga regarding the departure of Marcos Rojo, Boca attempted an unexpected move. Juan Román Riquelme contacted Juan Sebastián Verón to propose a swap for Santiago Ascacíbar, one of the standout players for Estudiantes de La Plata.
The proposal included the transfer of the defender, who still has five months left on his contract with Boca, plus 2.5 million dollars in exchange for the midfielder. However, the response from the Pincha president was negative: Ascacíbar is a key piece in the team and is not for sale.
Meanwhile, Rojo continues his attempt to part ways with the club. He is separated from the professional squad, trains individually, and is not considered by Miguel Ángel Russo. Although his contract expires in December, the termination is far from being finalized.

When asked about the absence of Rojo, Saracchi, and Lema from training sessions, the Xeneize coach explained: "Their case is a decision made by the club. But there is a reason for reaching that situation." The coach avoided going into details and did not include them in the squad lists for the Torneo Clausura matches.
In his third spell as Boca's coach, Saracchi was the only one who got minutes on the field (he came on at the end of the match against Bayern Munich in the Club World Cup). Rojo was a substitute throughout the tournament, and Lema did not even travel with the squad to the United States.
