While it tries to recover from a more than worrying start in the Torneo Apertura, Racing sealed the departure of one of its key players. La Academia reached an agreement with Grêmio de Porto Alegre for Juan Ignacio Nardoni, in a deal that is in its final stage and that will become one of the club's most important sales in recent years.
The 23-year-old midfielder will continue his career in the Brasileirão in exchange for 8 million dollars for 80% of his economic rights, plus another 2 million in performance-related bonuses. The negotiation was unlocked after the Brazilian club insisted with successive offers until it met the demands of the board led by Diego Milito.
The deal also involves Unión de Santa Fe, which will receive 30% of the total transfer fee, as had been stipulated when it transferred Nardoni to Racing in January 2023. At that time, La Academia had paid out 6 million dollars, so the current transfer not only allows it to recover the investment, but also to obtain a significant profit.
Nardoni seguirá su carrera en Brasil
The midfielder's departure comes in a complex sporting context for the team coached by Gustavo Costas, which began the competitive year with three straight defeats. Nardoni was one of the pillars of the squad and his exit shakes the project at the very start of the season, although the club prioritized the strong financial income in the face of an offer that is difficult to match in the local market.
Beyond the sporting impact, the board understood that the player had already reached his peak value in Argentine soccer and that there were no concrete offers from Europe. Thus, Racing chose to capitalize on the opportunity and close a considerable multi-million transfer that will ease the finances, even at the cost of losing one of its key pieces.
Nardoni's numbers at Racing
Since his arrival at the beginning of 2023, the native of Nelson has played 9,397 minutes for La Academia, spread over 126 matches, in which he scored 5 goals and provided 7 assists. In addition, during that period he also received a yellow card on 25 occasions and a red card on one. In terms of titles, Nardoni was part of the squads that won the Supercopa Intercontinental 2023, the 2024 Copa Sudamericana and the 2025 Recopa Sudamericana.
