Patricia Bullrich presented the first concrete action of the newly created Federal Department of Investigations (DFI) this Monday. The new division of the Federal Police will focus on detecting and dismantling possible ramifications in Argentina of the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC), the most powerful criminal organization in South America.

The announcement came four days after the arrest of Fabio Rosa Carvalho, leader of the criminal gang "Os Manos," in the Caballito neighborhood. The operation was coordinated between Argentine forces and agents sent from Brazil.

"The first essential investigation of the DFI will be the PCC in Argentina", Bullrich confirmed at a press conference at the Ministry of Security headquarters.

Bellizi warned about the danger of the PCC

General Commissioner Pascual Bellizi was officially introduced as the head of the new DFI. There, he explained the actions of the PCC, an organization founded 30 years ago in Brazil, with strong regional expansion.

"The PCC is violent, seeks to expand in America, and we're working on its identification and dismantling," Bellizi stated. He also emphasized that "these types of mafias are dangerous and leave homicides and crimes in their wake."

The official assured that the criminal group has a solid structure: "They have initiations, pacts, and provide financial support to their members and families."

Who is Fabio Rosa Carvalho

Fabio Rosa Carvalho, arrested on Friday in Caballito, is identified as the leader of "Os Manos," a gang attributed with more than 150 murders. He also keeps ties with the PCC. He had been a fugitive since his escape from a Brazilian prison three years ago, where he was serving a sentence for drug trafficking and homicides.

The arrest took place at 7:45 p.m. on Pedro Goyena Avenue at the 800 block. The City Police, Córdoba Police, and Brazilian Civil Police were involved, under the orders of Judge Alejandro Litvack.

How they found his whereabouts

The operation was called "Cova Rosa". In this context, 69 people linked to contract killings and drug trafficking were arrested. The key information to capture Carvalho was the use of a ride-hailing app, which allowed confirmation of his residence in Caballito.

The drug trafficker was using a fake Brazilian ID under the name Gilmar Dos Santos. Thanks to financial tracking in Córdoba, and then his trail in CABA, his immediate arrest was ordered.

Carvalho is waiting in a cell for his extradition to Brazil, where he faces charges for more than 100 homicides.
