BYD in Argentina: the Chinese electric car manufacturer opens its local subsidiary
BYD has already established itself in Buenos Aires and is preparing to launch its electric cars in Argentina
The arrival of Chinese brands in the Argentine automotive market shows no signs of stopping. Now, one of the world's strongest manufacturers has officially established itself in Buenos Aires.
BYD, the fastest-growing electric car manufacturer globally, has already formed the company BYD Auto Argentina SAU in Recoleta.

What BYD's arrival in Argentina means
BYD's entry confirms what many in the industry anticipated: competition from Chinese manufacturers will be more aggressive. Their lower prices and massive production scale put traditional brands in check.
Even local manufacturers admit that importing a finished car from China is more profitable than producing it in the country.
The models BYD will bring to the country
In this first stage, the brand is preparing to launch three key models:
- Dolphin: fully electric C-segment hatchback.
- Dolphin Mini: the most affordable option in the line-up.
- Atto 2: electric B-segment SUV with regional projection.

Additionally, local dealerships are already negotiating to officially represent the company.
International presence and expansion
In Brazil, BYD operates a plant in Bahia with the capacity to produce 150,000 vehicles per year, on the site previously occupied by Ford.

The company also has investments in rail transport, renewable energy, and electronics, with more than 30 industrial parks in Asia, America, and Europe.
From batteries to leader in electric cars
Founded in 1994 by Wang Chuanfu, BYD started by manufacturing batteries. Since 2003, it has positioned itself as a leader in electric mobility.
In 2024, it sold 3.83 million vehicles, ranking third worldwide, behind Toyota and Volkswagen.

A future focused on electrification
The brand's global objective is to double its international sales and surpass 800,000 units in strategic markets.
