The Prime Minister of Cambodia officially announced this Thursday that his country will nominate President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his intervention in the Cambodian-Thai war last July.
Trump helped achieve peace between the two Southeast Asian nations after five days of intense fighting that included airstrikes and artillery duels, which left dozens dead and displaced more than 300,000 people along the 800-kilometer (497 miles) border between the two countries.
On July 28, Trump wrote on his Truth Social network that after holding talks with the political leaders of both nations, a ceasefire on the border had been achieved, adding that he felt proud to consider himself the president of peace.

Cambodia joins Israel and Pakistan in nominating Trump for the Nobel Prize.
In a letter to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet thanks Trump on behalf of the Cambodian people for his support of the ceasefire and for his continued attention to his nation's peace process with Thailand, thus officially nominating the American leader to be awarded this highest honor.
Trump set as a condition the cessation of hostilities in order to reduce the high tariffs that he had threatened to impose on both countries. Once this warning was issued, the leaders of Cambodia and Thailand met in Malaysia the following day and agreed to a truce.
A few weeks ago, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also nominated Trump for the Peace Prize, followed by Pakistan, whose authorities highlighted the peacemaking role of the Republican leader in the Indo-Pakistani conflict last May.
