Judge Vaca Narvaja ruled in favor of the Celeste y Blanca List against the obstacles imposed by the official Electoral Board

The dispute within the Municipal Workers' Union of Villa Carlos Paz added a key chapter following the order of Judge Miguel Vaca Narvaja. The federal magistrate ordered that the participation of the Celeste y Blanca List in the elections scheduled for next December 12 be allowed. The judicial measure nullified the restrictions imposed by the Electoral Board that prevented the presentation of Altamirano's group.
The magistrate's intervention came after a series of controversies that constituted repeated obstacles to hinder the list. One of them was related to the challenge of a member of the opposition list, whom the Board objected to due to an unpaid leave of absence. Based on that bureaucratic argument, the body maintained that the member was not actively part of the municipality and could no longer be included on the list.
Altamirano requested to replace that candidate as permitted by the regulations, but the Electoral Board rejected the request, upholding the challenge. This arbitrary decision excluded the entire list from the competition and prompted an appeal to both the Provincial and Federal Judiciary. The maneuver ultimately led to the ruling issued by Vaca Narvaja to guarantee transparency in the entity's electoral process.
Las elecciones sindicales se desarrollarán finalmente el viernes 12 de diciembre entre las 8 y las 15 horas según el cronograma establecido.
Judicial ruling against obstacles to union freedom
In his decision, the judge warned that essential rights related to union freedom and political participation were at stake. The magistrate emphasized the need to safeguard democratic participation and equal conditions in the local electoral contest. For that reason, he ordered that the full participation of the Celeste y Blanca List be enabled and any previous impediment be nullified.
With the final ruling, Altamirano will be able to compete against the official list led by Sergio Nievas, who has led the union for years. Nievas has led the union for four years and currently has the political support of the city's mayor, Esteban Avilés. Meanwhile, the opposition candidate José Altamirano served as general secretary from 2013 to 2021 and is now seeking to regain the position.
Altamirano podrá competir frente a la lista oficialista encabezada por Sergio Nievas que conduce el gremio hace años.
The union elections will finally take place on Friday, December 12, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., according to the established schedule. There will be 6 polling stations in Villa Carlos Paz, and voting will also be possible in the neighboring towns of San Roque and San Antonio de Arredondo. Members will also be able to cast their votes in Villa Río Icho Cruz, thus closing the voting circuit for these union elections.
