State employees who join the strike will lose the day, the ruling party confirmed

On the eve of the debate on the labor reform in the Chamber of Deputies, the National Government confirmed that it will dock a day's pay from public employees who do not go to work. The decision comes in the context of the strike called by the CGT and other unions for this Thursday.
The measure was confirmed by high-ranking sources in the Casa Rosada, who warned that those who do not go to their workplaces or do not perform their duties during the day of protest will suffer the corresponding salary deduction.

The Government hardens its stance
Government officials pointed out that the decision is not new and that it was already applied in previous strikes carried out in 2025. However, this time the impact could be greater due to the support of the transportation unions, which confirmed that there will be no buses, trains, subways, or taxis for 24 hours.
El proyecto de modernización laboral obtuvo media sanción en el Senado
"They can do whatever they want, but they are warned that we are going to dock a day's pay from those who join", said a source with an office in Balcarce 50.
In the Executive Branch, officials explain that the criterion is simple: the State can't pay for a workday that was not worked. "It will be necessary to organize all the employees. But they have to come to work no matter what, in any way possible", the Government official stated.
La Libertad Avanza's ruling coalition is seeking to obtain a committee report on Wednesday in order to debate the labor modernization bill in the chamber on Thursday. If it is approved with amendments, the initiative would return to the Senate with the intention of achieving its final passage next week.
El proyecto se modificará en comisiones y busca ser tratado el jueves en Diputados
The call for the national strike arose after the controversy over an article that amended the medical leave regime. After the public debate, the Government agreed to reconsider that point in committee. In the Casa Rosada, officials maintain that this concession weakens the central argument of the protest.
However, the CGT and other unions insist that there are other articles that they consider harmful —to their own benefits—. Among them are those related to the ultra-activity of collective bargaining agreements, the possibility that company-level agreements may prevail over sector-wide agreements, or the regulation of assemblies in workplaces.
Tension within the union movement
The dynamics of the strike also caused internal differences. The Unión Personal Civil de la Nación (UPCN), led by Andrés Rodríguez, confirmed its support for the strike but not for the demonstration. Meanwhile, the Asociación Trabajadores del Estado (ATE), led by Rodolfo Aguiar, called for a march in front of Congress on the same day as the debate.

Meanwhile, Omar Maturano, from La Fraternidad, confirmed the total shutdown of transportation for 24 hours. From industrial sectors, such as the UOM in Córdoba, criticism also arose toward the CGT's leadership for considering the form of the measure insufficient.
The scenario points to a day of high political and union tension. The ruling coalition is betting on moving forward with a reform that it considers key for competitiveness and growth, while the unions are trying to halt its progress with a new show of force.
