A Chilean student defended Pinochet and the teacher went crazy: 'Shut up, shut up'

Due to the professor's aggressive behavior toward the students, he was sanctioned and removed from his position

A recent controversy erupted in Chile after a video was released in which a teacher, shouting and in an aggressive manner, abruptly interrupts students who had apparently expressed their support for former dictator Augusto Pinochet.

The incident took place at Liceo de Limache, located in the Valparaíso region, and quickly went viral on social media. "I'll repeat it so everyone can hear, here your classmate is speaking, defending Pinochet," the teacher can be heard saying, completely enraged.

"I'm not defending him," the student replies. However, the teacher reacts in an agitated manner and yells: "Shut up, shut up, I told you!" In response to this behavior, other students try to intervene to calm the situation, but the teacher also prevents them from speaking.

"I'm not talking to you. You be quiet too," he says to another student. He does the same with a teenage girl who tried to give her opinion: "Don't get involved. This is not your business."

Despite everything, the student insists on clarifying her words: "I just said he did bad things, at no time did I say he didn't." Even so, the teacher again demands silence: "Both of you be quiet, why are you still talking?" the teacher insists.

According to what the teacher himself later explained in an interview with Canal 13, the conflict originated after a student stated that "the best president in Chile was Augusto Pinochet."

The sanction

Through a video shared on social media, the Municipality of Limache announced that the teacher involved was removed from his position and that an administrative investigation will be initiated.

Mayor Luciano Valenzuela stated that "we can't allow" what happened, since "classrooms are spaces for learning, even to allow us to think differently. Therefore, the school coexistence team and the administration of Liceo de Limache, the first thing they did was to separate the teacher from his duties and notify the Department of Education to activate the complaints."

He also emphasized that "actions like these have consequences and are the ones that we, from the administration, have to promote."
