This Wednesday, the disastrous president of the Argentine Football Association, Claudio "Chiqui" Tapia, reaffirmed his complaint against leaders of the Civic Coalitionand businessman Leandro Camani, whom he accuses of having attempted to extort him. The boss testified virtually before the Prosecutor's Office of Pilar, in a presentation that was scheduled for this Thursday but was ultimately moved forward.
According to TN, during his testimony Tapia denied any relationship with the house located in Pilar that gave rise to an investigation into his assets. "I have nothing to do with the house in Pilar," he stated. In addition, he asserted that he doesn't know Facundo Del Gaiso, Matías Yofe, or Camani, head of Secutrans S.A., which is dedicated to the provision and operation of automated traffic control systems.
According to his version, the complaint over the house was not the starting point of the conflict, but rather the consequence of a series of prior pressure tactics, threats, and warnings that date back to his time at the Metropolitan Area Ecological Coordination (CEAMSE). In that context, he maintained that everything allegedly originated after he refused to authorize a multimillion-dollar business linked to the photo-ticketing system.
"Camani, hiding behind Matías Yofe and Facundo Del Gaiso, formalizes the complaints in order to coerce me together with journalists. I do not rule out that all this is a scheme by a criminal organization, all within the framework of a multimillion-dollar business," Tapia stated before the Prosecutor's Office.
Along those lines, he insisted that the actions of the complainants be thoroughly investigated and again distanced himself from any irregularity. "I have nothing to do with the house in Pilar, I only had the entire company searched to see whether there was any documentation that would authorize the installation of the cameras," he asserted. He also stated that the threats allegedly aimed to force him to authorize the power supply for photo-ticketing cameras that did not have authorization.
Tapia afirmó no tener nada que ver con la mansión de Pilar
Meanwhile, Tapia reported that, after the court filing, a media operation was deployed to amplify the impact of the accusation, with repeated publications that, he claimed, presented serious charges as if they were proven facts, without support or context.
It is worth recalling that last week, the head of the governing body of Argentine football had already submitted an extensive brief in which he declared himself the victim of an extortion scheme. In that document, he requested raids, the seizure and forensic examination of the electronic devices of Camani, Yofe, and Del Gaiso, and the summoning of witnesses under protected identity, within the framework of a case that remains under active investigation.
