Claude revolutionizes Chrome with an AI agent capable of automating tasks
Anthropic introduced an AI agent for Chrome that navigates and completes tasks, competing with ChatGPT
Anthropic has introduced an AI agent for Chrome that promises to revolutionize the way users interact with browsers. The extension allows Claude to browse and complete tasks for the user, maintaining the context of everything that appears on the web.
This new development comes at a time when OpenAI is facing criticism following the launch of GPT-5. Anthropic is strengthening the competition to integrate artificial intelligence directly into browsers, alongside Perplexity and Gemini Live.

What Claude's AI agent can do
- Automatically fill out forms on booking or shopping pages.
- Review sent messages and highlight those that have not received a response.
- Perform repetitive tasks to improve user productivity.
It operates in a Chrome sidebar and preserves the browsing context, allowing queries and actions based on the page being visited.
Limited access and waitlist
Currently, Claude's AI agent is available only to 1,000 subscribers of Anthropic's Max plan, with a cost starting at 90 euros. Interested users can sign up for a waitlist to try the tool.

The battle for browsers
The launch is part of the competition among AI labs for deeper integrations in browsers. OpenAI and Perplexity are also seeking to offer similar experiences through their systems.
Perplexity even made a multimillion-dollar offer for Chrome, motivated by a possible antitrust ruling that would force Google to sell its browser, according to TechCrunch.

Security and limitations of the agent
The main challenge for AI agents in browsers is security. Malicious code could trick the system into executing dangerous actions. For this reason, Anthropic restricts access to financial sites, adult and pirated content, and requests permission before executing critical actions.
