Under Petro's government, Julio César Triana survives an armed attack with rifles and pistols by left-wing hitmen
Congressman Julio César Triana, from the Cambio Radical party, survived an attack in Huila when his vehicle was assaulted with handguns and rifles. The incident occurred while he was traveling to the municipality of Paicol, and it was recorded in a video published by the legislator himself. Triana reported that, despite his multiple calls, he did not receive immediate support from the police or the army, which increased the risk to his safety and that of his team.
"I want to tell everyone that we're in the vehicle: we've just been attacked, we've just been shot at with a rifle and a handgun as we were leaving La Plata. I'm here with the police officers, the UNP. I want to inform you that we still haven't received support from either the police or the army. We're arriving at a town called Paicol; the road is absolutely deserted. We were hit several times. We're requesting support from the public force.", the congressman recounted, with evident fear.

The audiovisual material shared by Triana shows the damage caused by the gunfire, which affected three windows of the SUV, although he and his team were unharmed. The National Protection Unit (UNP) and military authorities were immediately alerted to reinforce the legislator's security given the evident vulnerability in the area.
Cambio Radical expressed its rejection of the attack through an official statement, recalling that threats against Triana had already been reported without effective protection measures being implemented. The party held Gustavo Petro's government directly responsible for the security of its congressman, stating that "thinking differently can't be a reason to silence the voice or the life of Colombians."
The party established a link between this attack and the assassination of senator and presidential pre-candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay, warning about the escalation of attacks against opposition figures. "We're grateful that our congressman is out of danger; however, the vehicle in which he was traveling was completely destroyed. We stand in solidarity with him, his family, and his team during this difficult time," they added.
Meanwhile, from the opposition, criticism was leveled at the gap between the Executive's commitments and the reality regarding security. The party recalled that the government had promised "total peace", but to date has not addressed the threats nor commented on the recent events, highlighting the insufficiency of protection policies in the face of violence from groups aligned with the left.
