Perplexity announced that Comet, its browser with integrated artificial intelligence, is now available for free in its desktop version. Until now, only those subscribed to paid plans could access it.
The company aims to compete with Google Chrome and offer a different experience, where browsing is combined with the use of prompts and a real-time AI assistant.

How Comet works and what sets it apart from Chrome
Comet's proposal targets a hybrid model between browser and search engine. According to Perplexity, the assistant "travels the web with the user" instead of being embedded as in other browsers with AI.
This means it can help with online shopping, travel bookings, or real-time data verification. In addition, all responses include verified sources, which distinguishes it from competitors like ChatGPT or Claude.
Comet Plus: the premium subscription
Although the free version is already active, there is an option called Comet Plus. According to CEO Aravind Srinivas, it works similarly to Apple News Plus and offers access to content from international media outlets.
